What #Bey Taught Me

color outside, freedom, boundaries, entrepreneur, lessons learned

So, how many times have you watched Homecoming?

Listen, I’m not judging at ALL.

There are so many monumental lessons in the documentary.

From entrepreneurship, to seeing her struggle between work and family, to the marketing lessons (of course, my mind went there… I might have given up my marketing career, but I’m still a marketer at heart). Homecoming was a celebration of black dopeness and I can’t get enough.

Of everything she said, I think what stood out the most to me was when she said,

“I definitely pushed myself further than I knew I could… and I learned a very valuable lesson. I will never, never push myself that far again.”

How many times have you been there?

Or better yet, how many times have you been there and didn’t realize that it was all too much, you’d gone too far, and weren’t exactly sure how to get back on the right track?

In Beyonce’s case, she was specifically talking about her diet and training to get back in shape after having the twins.

But in every day life, our “too far” might be:

— taking care of everyone else at our own expense
— putting someone’s needs before our own (who doesn’t deserve it and would never do the same for us)
— not asking for help
— not going to therapy
— never giving ourselves a break because of all your responsibilities

I’m sure you have your version of going too far. I only hope that you recognize that you deserve some grace. A rest. A break.

You deserve JOY and SUPPORT and COMMUNITY.
