The Holidays Don’t Have to be Stressful

Dec 16

I love the holiday season but it can also be incredibly overwhelming. Just like I’m a big believer of you choosing & defining your own adventure when it comes to creating your own life, I think the same can be said for the holiday season. YOU get to decide what your holiday season looks like and sounds like and feels like. It doesn’t have to be a ball of stress if you don’t want it to be.

Here are 3 things I’m committing to this December.

  1. A lot less stuff. I have a lot of shit in my house. Between kids toys, clothes that don’t fit, paper (why is there so much damn paper?!), things that don’t work, things I never use, we’re basically drowning in stuff. It’s overwhelming to say the least. I’m focusing on accumulating more experiences and less actual stuff this holiday season — and beyond. That means putting the notice out to family that no, my daughter doesn’t need that fancy new must-have toy. It means feeling really grateful for the things that we have but no longer serve us and sending them off to new homes. It means spending less time online shopping and more hanging out with my family and friends. I feel lighter already.
  2. A whole lot more fun. I remember the first Christmas I hosted at my house, I was so stressed out about making sure that everything was perfect that I had exactly 0% fun. It was the worst. After that time, I swore to never again let expectations ruin a good time. I’m hosting a good chunk of my family again this year for Christmas but I’m committed to remaining present, in the moment, and having a good time. For our family, that means eating, drinking, playing cards and getting outside for some fresh air and a little adventure.
  3. My one word intention. For the past 7 years, I’ve chosen a one word theme to represent the whole year. I haven’t thought through what my one word intention will be for 2018 but I will be savoring the last few days of GROWTH, which was my one word theme for 2017. It’s funny, when I set my theme at the beginning of 2017, I was thinking more along the lines of business growth and scaling but in reality, my year was a lot more about personal and emotional growth. Funny how things work out, huh?

How are you feeling about the upcoming holidays? Excited or kinda, sorta stressing? Anything you can commit to now to make sure that the rest of this year rolls out exactly the way that you crave? Let me know what you’re committing to, just hit reply to this email!

PS – I created a new signature program for Color Outside — the Colorful & Carefree Collective. This is a mastermind community for ambitious, driven women of color who are ready to hop off the cycle of boredom and burn-out and start living an adventurous life that is consistently connected to their bliss. Finding community, adventure, and targeted value-filled education has been my secret weapon in creating a purpose-filled and joyful life, and I’ll share everything I know PLUS everyone I’ve learned with the incredible group of women in the collective.

Don’t let another year go by without being the woman you want to be, feeling the way you want to feel, and doing what YOU want to do. Sign up for a free 10 minute call and we’ll chat more about the Colorful & Carefree Collective.
